Five Tournament Teams Highlight Hofstra's '08 Schedule

HEMPSTEAD, NY - Six home games including contests against defending national champions, John Hopkins, and NCAA Tournament semifinalist Delaware, highlight Hofstra's 13-game, 2008 men's lacrosse schedule, Pride Head Coach Seth Tierney announced Wednesday.

The Pride, who begin their 2008 campaign on Saturday, February 23 at the University of Massachusetts, will open their home schedule at James M. Shuart Stadium on Saturday, March 1 against Brown University at 3 p.m. The defending national champion Blue Jays of Johns Hopkins return to Shuart Stadium for the first time since the 2006 season on Saturday, March 8 at 1 p.m. NCAA Tournament participant and CAA rival Towson comes to Long Island on Friday night, March 21 at 7 p.m. while another conference opponent, NCAA semifinalist Delaware, comes to Long Island on Saturday, April 12 at 1 p.m.

In addition to UMass, Hofstra's road opponents include NCAA Tournament teams Princeton on Saturday, March 15, and North Carolina on Saturday, April 19. The Pride also has road games at conference foes Drexel, Villanova, and Robert Morris, as well as Long Island-rival Stony Brook.

Hofstra will have two games televised during the 2008 season. The Pride's March 15th contest at Princeton will be aired nationally on ESPNU while the April 12th home contest against Delaware will be televised on the MSG Network.

In Tierney's first season as mentor of the Pride last season, Hofstra posted a 6-8 record with four victories decided by two goals or less, and seven of the eight losses decided by one goal.
